Split a deck into a presentation and a document

Split this deck into a presentation version and a document version.

***They are different documents.* **A deck that reads well alone is unreadable projected, and a deck that projects well is useless as a record.** **Most decks are neither because they try to be both.**

1. **Decide which this deck currently is**, ***and say so*** — **it is usually the document, being projected**
2. **For the presentation version:**
   - **What comes off** — ***anything the speaker says out loud***
   - **What stays** — ***what has to be seen to be understood***
   - **What gets bigger**
   - ***What becomes one slide instead of three, or three instead of one***
3. **For the document version:**
   - **What has to be added** — ***everything the speaker would have said, written out***
   - **What can be denser** — *a reader can re-read*
   - **What needs a note under it** so it survives without me
4. **What stays identical in both** — *the numbers, the conclusion*

**Then:**
- ***Which to send afterwards, and whether to send it before*** — **sending the document version in advance changes the meeting**
- **What must not be in the version that gets forwarded** — ***it will be read by people who were not there and out of context***
