Diagnose why I could not catch this spoken passage. For each problem point: 1. Classify the cause — unknown word / known word not recognized by ear / linking between words / reduction or contraction / speed / unfamiliar accent feature. 2. Show how it is actually pronounced in connected speech, written out plainly. 3. Give the fix for that cause. *Vocabulary problems and linking problems need completely different practice, and treating them the same is why listening plateaus.* Then: - Compare what I heard to what was said. The gap usually shows one recurring pattern. - The two patterns to drill first. - Three similar phrases to practice the same pattern. Rules: - Do not just translate the passage. Translation does not tell me why I missed it. - *Do not use phonetic notation I may not read.* Write approximations in plain letters. - Where you cannot tell from the text which cause applies, say so and give me a way to test it.
